The Tiffen
Company, the world’s leading manufacturer of photographic filters and lens
accessories, this week introduced a "low-light"
polarizer to the motion picture, broadcast, and still photographic markets.
The low-light polarizer was developed for
shooting indoors in low-light conditions and for situations that do not provide
enough light for a standard polarizer to be used.
According to CEO Steve Tiffen, the low-light polarizer
reduces glare and reflections and adds just enough punch to saturate colors and
maintain decent contrast without compromising image quality.
“It is
no match for our Ultra Pol®,” states Tiffen, “But it gives the camera
professional that little touch of polarization that is needed to keep the scene
crisp, especially if the low light pol is being used indoors with one or two
other filters.”
The low-light polarizer is purposely designed with a
one-stop compensation factor and sets the stage for camera professionals to feel
confident when stacking it with a Pro-Mist®, Soft/FX®, or other favorite
diffusion filter.
The Tiffen low-light polarizer joins the ranks of
other Tiffen polarizers including the Circular, 85/Pol, 812/Pol, and Enhancing
Pol filters.
The low-light polarizer is available in many popular
professional sizes including 4x4, 4x5.650 and 6.6x6.6.
Tiffen
filters are backed by a 10-year warranty. They are used in almost every major
movie and TV production around the world. Tiffen has been honored with two
Technical Achievement Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences: one for innovative product design, and the other for its unique
lamination process which gives complete control over filter color and density.
In 2000, the Academy presented Nat Tiffen, one of Tiffen’s founders, with a
Scientific and Engineering Award for consistency in filter quality. Tiffen also
received a 1998 Emmy Award for Engineering Excellence.
