Ron Fortunato, Director of Photography, on Tiffen Glimmerglass Filters: I knew that "Gossip Girl" had to have an elegant look that would be more glossy than some of the grittier work I've done in the past. There would be more backlight, more attention paid to fashion. When I shot my first HD project 100 Centre Street over eight years ago, I called Tiffen for help. They recommended the Black and Gold Diffusion/FX filters which I’ve been using ever since on both HD and film. I needed something more glamorous for this show and I called Tiffen again. They brought the Glimmerglass filters to my attention. I tested them and realized that they would be perfect for the project. They give the image a beautiful subtle smoothness with a only a hint of the veiling that a Pro-Mist delivers. I use the number 1 (or the bronze version) on just about every shot, sometimes the 2 and 3. On the occasional close-up, I'll add a Black Diffusion/FX 1/2 or 1. I still carry my entire kit of Tiffen filters with me and will pull out some of the old stand-bys like Black Pro-Mists and Antique Suedes.
