View Full Version : F1x. Old or fake?

I came across what looks to be a cool old F1x or a counterfeit. It was a smoking deal; so in all honesty, I don't mind that it may not be real. I just like to know what I paid for... It is a very nice bag that has been used, but has held up very well. No rips, tears or damage anywhere. Nice worn-in look. Needs a bath and a new bottom board is all. The bottom board that came with it appears home made. Also, no inserts were included, but I have several to use so no issue there either. The inner liner of zippered lid pocket is the proper green material. It has YKK zippers and the construction throughout is the same as my two F2 bags. Why the concern? The Made in the USA tag is different and the Domke emblems on the side pockets do not have the “circle-R” for registered trademark. Also the trim is off color (as I've noticed on older Domkes) and is of a slightly different material. My F2s, a green one and a black one, are not like that. So, Domke historians, do I have a cool old authentic F1x, or a real good fake???
Looks like it's legit. The "Made in USA" tags have changed several times; I've got at least three different ones on my bags. I don't recall if my F1x (dates to the early '90s or before) has the "®" on it though and I'm out with the F-7 and F-803 right now so can't check. The lining (or not) of the lid isn't an indicator either way; they used to be straight canvas, unlined, and I have a sand F-804 with sand nylon liner material.

Thanks for the reply. I suspect it's a real one. For one thing it's probably too old! I doubt there were many knock-offs readily available in the US before eBay and international internet sales became the norm...
It’s had a bath and is currently hanging to dry. I ordered a new bottom board for it which arrives Tuesday. I'm going to use my new style (adjustable compartments) digital insert and a two compartment insert once I put it into service. This will fill in very nice for times when I need to carry all or most my stuff. I can stuff one of the F2s full and carry what I need, but in my opinion they aren’t as nice to carry when they are that stuffed. More importantly, there’s no room for snacks when they’re that full of gear!!!

Sorry for the late reply, but I'm the product manager for Domke and I agree with Jon.

Thanks for the replies. Love the bag. Used for the first time last night to shoot a high school hockey game that included a senior night. Wasn’t sure what I'd use for the senior night part, so I brought more gear than I would normally for hockey. That's where the F1x comes in. Perfect, just as I'd hoped for. All the stuff I wanted to bring without the need to overstuff the F2. Easy to work with and still comfortable to carry.
full of gear, lid closed.
