Top of my F-3X...

Doesn't quite cover the bag unless I pull it to each side(towards the side pockets).

Is this normal?

I think it'll depend on how you load it. If you pack the gear in so the sides bulge out, the top won't cover as well as if you pack so the front bulges. Mine, with a 1D3/70-200 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 in the main compartment, leaves no gaps. If I shove a netbook in there, though, it does gap some.

It seems the way that I like packing it, leaves the pockets wide. I love the bag so it's a minor thing.
